This handcrafted forest edge spruce adds realistic evergreen structure to the fringe of your model woodland in every season. On the outer side facing the open landscape the needle-covered branches reach almost down to the ground, while on the forest side the trunk is only about half covered with green foliage and below that shows dry, dead branches. This makes the tree ideal for realistic forest edges, transitions between forest and open country and for use together with forest spruces on your layout.
The Norway spruce (Picea abies), which serves as the prototype for this model, is one of the most widespread conifers in Europe and extends far into continental Asia. Under favourable conditions it occurs from lowlands up to altitudes of more than 2 000 metres and can reach natural heights of around 40 metres, while in exposed high mountain locations it remains much smaller.
