Handcrafted Model Tree – All-Year Forest Fir

This handcrafted model tree represents a typical forest fir with a slender, upward-tapering crown that is densely needled in the upper crown zone. The trunk is, as in closed stands, only needled on about the upper 50 to 60 percent and remains largely branch- and needle-free below. This makes the all-year forest fir ideal for creating dense fir stands, mixed beech–fir forests and coniferous mixed forests with spruce and pine on your model railway layout or diorama.

The European silver fir (Abies alba), prototype for this model, is an evergreen conifer native to the mountain ranges of central and southern Europe. Its natural range extends from the Pyrenees and the mountains of France across the Alps and Carpathians to the ranges of south-eastern Europe. It occurs mainly at montane sites between about 300 and 1 700 metres elevation and can reach heights of around 40 to over 50 metres in nature, with exceptional specimens approaching 60 metres.
