What is special about coreless motors?
Coreless motors have no cogging torque because of their specific design; they can rotate freely without noticeable detents. This results in smooth running even at very low speeds and a significantly reduced noise level.

Why should you convert your models to coreless motors?
A typical example: your locomotive is creeping into a station or towards a signal. The slower it runs, the more it tends to jerk. With a coreless motor this behavior disappears. At higher speeds the motor will also no longer try to drown out the sound decoder.

What needs to be replaced?
There is unfortunately no universal rule. In the ideal case you only replace the original motor with a suitable coreless motor and add a shaft adapter, while you continue to use the existing worm gear and flywheel. If the worm gear and flywheel cannot be removed from the original shaft, you will also need new parts. You will find suitable motors, shaft adapters, flywheels, gears and complete conversion kits here in the shop.
For your purchase decision first check whether your model uses a single-shaft or double-shaft motor. Then measure the length and diameter of the original motor and the length of the shaft(s). Take your time and measure twice before you order.
Tip: you can install a motor of the same size as the original and reuse the existing mount, or you can remove the mount and fit a larger, more powerful motor and fix it in place, for example with epoxy resin.
