For large scales such as 1:45, 0 or garden railway, the slightly coarser foliage structure is tuned so that individual tufts still read as small clusters of leaves without appearing fuzzy at close viewing distances. By layering torn pieces of the mat, you can build tall columnar crowns, irregular poplar avenues along roads and tracks or dense windbreaks on embankments with convincing texture, colour depth and the characteristic vertical silhouettes of poplar trees.
