The cultivated apple tree (Malus domestica), prototype for this model, is a deciduous fruit tree that arose from hybrids of wild apples and is now grown in almost all temperate regions of the world. In Europe it shapes traditional orchards and modern fruit plantations, where trees depending on variety and training system usually reach heights of about 5 to 10, in old high-stem orchards up to around 15 metres.
